James Balkcom, Jr.
Jim Balkcom joined TalentQuest as chairman of the board and as a C-Level mentor. For this specialized offering and business solution, Jim draws upon more than 20 years of experience as a CEO and president. As his career exemplifies, Jim is a business leader with a demonstrated ability to drive organizational success. A native of Atlanta, Jim attended the Georgia Institute of Technology before being appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point. While serving in Vietnam, Jim received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and Vietnamese Distinguished Service Medal. He currently serves as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Georgia.
After receiving an MBA in Finance from Harvard University, Jim began an illustrious business career. He has served as owner/CEO of Techsonic Industries, the developer of the state-of-the- art Liquid Crystal Depthsounders. After selling and exiting Techsonic, he became CEO of Pameco, a $600 million revenue HVAC distribution company. He has also been chairman of the board and/or board member of CommerceSouth Bank, Century South Bank and several hi-technology companies. Most recently, Jim has been involved as a founding partner of Council Ventures, a venture capital group and has served as an executive consultant at Equifax.
As a C-Level mentor, Jim believes in building successful coaching relationships through broad-based coaching. This coaching relationship is conducted in parallel with existing business and senior-level management relationships. In addition to C-level coaching, Jim offers valuable insight into the dynamics of boards of directors. Having served on numerous boards, including several chairman positions, Jim channels his “real world” perspective and successful business experience to promote communication, productivity and integrity among board members.
Atlanta is home for Jim and Linda, his wife of 39 years. Jim and Linda have two daughters and are proud grandparents to four beautiful grandchildren.
